NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.
The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

Is it just me or does the sun look bigger on Mars then it does here at 17 seconds to 26 seconds? Mars being so far away and all. A bit confused, maybe an illusion.

0:15 Is there a backup chute in case the main one doesn't open? Looking closely: above the chute that opens I see 3 other objects that are tethered to the chute. They can't be debris because debris don't float in a straight line. So where's the backup chute?
There is no backup chute. Those objects were from on top of the area where the parachute was stowed. In the press conference, they mentioned that they didn’t expect the large dome-shaped piece to come off. It didn’t pose a danger to the rover.
The debris is not “floating” It’s falling, and fast, but perseverance is moving much much faster past them. And yes it’s debris, that wasn’t exactly supposed to fall off

Had a thought. I know the sky crane flies away and crashes some where far from the rover. Why not land it some where else? Sure it’s been discussed so happy to hear why crashing it was the chosen option.
Because either way it will lose ability to respond after detaching from the rover. It's served its purpose once the rover is on the ground and has nothing onboard to make it useful after the rover is fully operational
